Douglas OHI team has worked at the Duqm Refinery since 2018, covering multiple scopes of work such as earthworks and civil, EPC building, precast concrete pipe racks and buildings, u/g pipework, and mechanical installations. Having spent so much time at the project site, it was inevitable that the team would encounter challenges. Nonetheless, we have also experienced triumphs together, such as the good news we are bringing today–our team achieved 13 Million Safe Man-hours in the Duqm Refinery project site without LTI. This achievement is a testament to our commitment and dedication to safety and health.
The Duqm Refinery is being constructed at the Special Economic Zone of Duqm (SEZD), South East Coast of Oman in Duqm, Al Wusta region of Oman. This project is a Joint Venture (JV) between OQ, owned by the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI), owned by the Government of Kuwait.
The project is in its final stages, with 93.67% completed. Once the refinery fully operates, it will have the capacity to produce 230,000 BPD to become the largest oil refinery in Oman. Find out more about the project here.
This attainment was only possible through the team’s efforts in managing risk and driving continuous improvement towards zero harm on site. This significant accomplishment also represents Douglas OHI’s holistic approach to safety whilst achieving substantial results for clients by integrating risk management into all aspects of projects.
The assertiveness and sense of duty demonstrated by the Douglas OHI team in Duqm are part of the company’s culture in ensuring continuous growth and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment at all times. Therefore, the management has expressed how proud and grateful they are to everyone who contributed to this notable success. They appreciate and acknowledge the efforts and commitment of everyone in identifying issues and risks, alerting the leadership if something feels unusual, and raising their hand whenever they deem it appropriate.
As an appreciation and support from Douglas OHI’s management, General Manager, Mr Michael Hall, gives his message to the team, expressing his delight and encouraging others to follow the same practices and achieve more goals.
“Achieving 13 million man-hours is no mean feat, and huge credit must go to all Douglas OHI team members working at Duqm Refinery site. A special mention should go to Mr Rathish (Snr Project Manager) and Mr Badisha (Health & Safety Project Lead) for their unwavering commitment to ensuring health and safety remain the utmost priority throughout the project delivery. Well done to you and all your colleagues.”
