Transforming construction
by creating new opportunities
The Douglas OHI Codes are reference documents that detail minimum standards of behaviour and control for some of the key HSE issues that we, and our supply-chain, need to manage.
Douglas OHI Codes for Subcontractors and Personal Protective Equipment can be downloaded from the website whilst others are available to suitably interested parties from the Douglas OHI HSSE department.
This list of Codes is far from definitive and is being added to on a regular basis.
Douglas OHI HSSE Code For Subcontractors
This Code has been prepared to ensure that Douglas OHI LLC and all Subcontractors on Douglas OHI LLC contracts operate to clear and consistent standards and in doing so assist us in meeting our goals of being accident free and reducing our environmental impact.
In meeting these goals, we will achieve our vision of being the trusted Partner to all those with whom we have a relationship, be they shareholders, customers, employees, suppliers, member of the community in which we are working, or any other group or individual.
Subcontractors are required to contribute and co-operate with Douglas OHI LLC with Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environmental related issues, including any initiatives that may be introduced.
Douglas OHI HSSE Code For Personal Protective Equipment
The intention of this standard is to ensure that all people in Douglas OHI work locations, who need to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), have PPE that is effective and comfortable.
We have introduced this standard as experience has shown us that PPE provided does not always meet the relevant protection stand-ards and isn’t appropriately marked, in practice quality is variable.
This standard therefore details acceptable PPE, by manufacturer and model of the various types of PPE.
This is not a standard introducing additional mandatory wearing of PPE, although there will be site rules specifying minimum PPE to be worn (detailed in the Health and Safety Plan for the work location).
This standard will include head, hand and eye protection, safety footwear, high visibility vests, coveralls and respirators.

Douglas OHI HSSE Code For The Movement, Handling and Storage of Materials
This Code for Materials Handling, Storage and Movement has been introduced to ensure we are all working in a uniformed, safe and efficient manner with the goal of reducing our wastage and increasing our profits. In addition, if you view this document as containing minimum standards that can be improved upon, then do so and share your improvements with the HSSE department who will update this Code accordingly.
In addition to creating a physically safer workplace, the behaviours of individuals is influenced by their working environment. In other words, a clean, tidy and well managed workplace is far more likely to promote positive behaviours as opposed to one where materi-als, waste storage and handling is haphazard and not controlled, it goes without saying that this encourages less than positive behaviours.
