Refresher Fire Prevention Awareness

The Douglas OHI Safety Team based in Duqm conducted an awareness session on fire prevention, the use of fire extinguishers, the recognition of fire signs, emergency procedure and safe evacuation.

The awareness session highlighted:

• The various kinds of fire hazards encountered onsite.
• The actions employees must take if they encounter a fire.
• Fire prevention and protection requirements implemented onsite.
• Best practices on how to prevent fire incidents. 
• How to develop a safety culture encouraging safe behaviour.
• How to be ready in the event of an emergency, as well as the potential consequences.

In addition, employees were given a refresher on fire signage, as well as the different extinguishers that are needed for different types of fires and along with a demonstration on  how to use them. It also looks at safe evacuation and what you should do in emergency situations.

Through role plays and sharing best practices with each other, all on site personnel are aware of their responsibilities regarding health and safety allowing them to perform their jobs safely. Supporting material was provided in English, Arabic and Hindi.
