The Duqm Refinery is a cutting-edge greenfield refinery project located in the Special Economic Zone of Duqm (SEZAD). It is a joint venture between the state-owned Oman Oil Company and Kuwait Petroleum International, with a daily processing capacity of around 230,000 barrels of crude oil. 

Douglas OHI has been a key civil contractor partner in the Duqm Refinery project since October 2018. Our team has been providing various services such as earthworks and civil, EPC building, precast concrete pipe racks and buildings, u/g pipework, and mechanical installations. More importantly, we have also demonstrated excellent safety and quality standards, reaching a remarkable milestone of over 14 million safe working hours without Lost-time Injuries. 

We started on the project with a civils package for two zones, but our performance and dedication earned us additional scope of work such as the EPC Buildings, precast piperack and precast buildings erection, additional civils packages and mechanical installations.

During our long stay in Duqm, we have faced many successes and challenges, strengthening our relationships with our clients, other contractors, and the local community.

Health and Safety Awards from the Ministry of Health and OQ8

The Ministry of Health awarded Douglas OHI with a highly prestigious certificate of recognition. The awarding ceremony commenced in Duqm last January 2023 in the honourary presence of the Wali of Duqm. This achievement is credited to our team’s continuous efforts in ensuring the health and safety of Duqm’s people and environment.

In addition, our Project HSSE Manager, Mr Badisha Muhammed Mahadur, received a certificate of appreciation from our client, OQ8. Our team was led by Mr Badisha, who has an outstanding track record for initiating and advocating our company’s HSSE practices. 

Being One with the Duqm Community

Douglas OHI has established a strong relationship with the Duqm community throughout the duration of the project. Both parties formed a strong camaraderie and mutual respect. This cooperative and supportive partnership is especially evident in our joint efforts for social causes.

Here are some of the initiatives that Douglas OHI initiated or participated in at Duqm

• Partnership with the Omani Women’s Association in Duqm
• Donation of electronic learning equipment and stationery for children
• Donation of toys to the children of Duqm Ministry School
• Fundraising for medical equipment–wheelchairs, beds, desks and chairs for disadvantaged families
• School bag distribution campaign for students from low-income households or orphans.
• Donation of blood glucose monitors
• Necessity packs for low-income and disadvantaged families 
• Counselling sessions, early communication intervention, and activity-based learning modules for children
• Autism awareness campaign 

The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) and Omani Women Association Al Jazer also recognised Douglas OHI with a Certificate of Appreciation for our consistent support to the local community of Duqm.

Moreover, our team collaborated with other organisations to launch sustainability initiatives that enhance our environment’s well-being. The Douglas OHI team has planted over 500 trees in the SEZAD industrial area. They have also adorned our Employee Camp’s perimeter with trees to create a green and pleasant atmosphere for our employees.

We highly anticipate the successful completion of this grandeur project. Douglas OHI is very proud to be a part of the development and construction of the Duqm Refinery. We especially give high regard and recognition to our onsite team, our supportive partners, and to all of the Duqm community.
