Douglas OHI emerged triumphant at the prestigious 11th Dossier Construction Awards, held on November 29, 2023, at The Sheraton Hotel in Muscat. The ceremony marked a significant recognition of Douglas OHI’s commitment to innovation, safety, and industry leadership.
At the core of Douglas OHI’s success is a relentless dedication to health, safety, and the environment (HSE). The ‘It’s OK’ campaign, which secured the Best HSE Initiative award, exemplifies our company’s people-centric approach to safety. This initiative transcends traditional safety programmes, fostering effective communication and engagement at all levels of the organisation. Utilising Constructive Intervention Diaries, the program captures positive and negative interventions, ensuring continuous learning and improvement.
The ‘It’s OK’ initiative extends through our interactive programmes like ‘Say Hello, Wave Goodbye Plant Safety Awareness’ and the ‘Driver Engagement Programme.’ These initiatives focus on raising hazard awareness and promoting a safety mindset. Moreover, It also ensures that safety extends beyond the workplace to everyday life.
The success of the ‘It’s OK’ initiative can be attributed to Douglas OHI’s commitment to clearly defined expectations, effective communication in multiple languages, visible leadership presence, risk awareness, accountability, and an enhanced safety culture. This initiative has not replaced our existing safety management systems but complemented and enhanced them.
Douglas OHI’s prowess in the construction industry was further underscored by winning the Best Contractor – Industrial Project award for our work on the Duqm Refinery in Oman. The Duqm Refinery project showcased Douglas OHI’s expertise in civil and building construction.
The project, initiated in 2018 and completed in October 2023, involved a civils package for two zones. It also included EPC Buildings, precast pipe racks and precast buildings erection, additional civils packages, and mechanical installations. Douglas OHI’s commitment to timely project delivery, sustainable operational management, and advanced health and safety practices contributed to the project’s success.
The Duqm Refinery project achieved a remarkable milestone of over 14 million safe working hours without Lost-Time Injuries, earning recognition from The Ministry of Health and the client, OQ8. Douglas OHI’s commitment to health and safety extends to providing advanced HSE training to employees, supporting their personal and professional development.
Douglas OHI also pioneered the construction processes in Oman by introducing a “precast” construction process for the Duqm Refinery project.
