Douglas OHI, Interserve’s associate company in Oman, and Interserve’s UK construction business have been awarded a contract by the joint venture of CB&I and CTCI for the delivery of building and associated utilities package (EPC Package 1) at the Orpic’s Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) Project in Suhar.
The project has been part-funded with the support of UK Export Finance.
The US$6.4bn LPIC development forms one of Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company’s (Orpic) strategic growth projects to enhance its product mix and business model, in addition to supporting the development of a downstream plastics industry in Oman.
Work has already started to engineer and build a total of 62 buildings, comprising a total floor area of 33,000 square metres.
The Rt Hon Lord Astor of Hever, Trade Envoy to Oman, commented:
“I am pleased to see the UK actively involved in the development of downstream oil and gas projects in Oman such as the Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) Project. Douglas OHI and Interserve, have won this important sub-contract, and I am delighted to see this strong example of how UK Export Finance can support key projects in Oman”.
Michael Hall, Tendering & Engineering Manager at Douglas OHI, said:
“This contract award is the first of its kind for Interserve. Working closely with our client, we tailored our proposal to incorporate key components set by UK Export Finance (UKEF). When consolidated with other selected packages, Orpic, the project end user, was able to obtain financial support from UKEF to deliver the overall project.”
“Douglas OHI has a strong history of supporting international EPC contractors with civil and building works throughout the Sultanate of Oman. This award not only builds upon our experience in this sector, but further expands our support capabilities and offering to our clients”. With this new contract award, we look forward to delivering first-class project capabilities.”
George Franks, Managing Director at Interserve International, commented:
“By demonstrating our UK strength along with our international experience and best practice we are able to showcase our capabilities to support international EPC contractors with their UKEF requirements, thus supporting supply chains across the United Kingdom and Middle East. These capabilities and continued backing from the British Government will provide us with greater opportunities in the market to not only support future EPC projects, but also provide direct support to leading client’s internationally.”
