Our goal has been to partner with organisations who offer a range of support services for autistic children, including counselling sessions, early communication intervention, activity-based learning modules for children.
Hams Al Theer Rehab Centre is one such organisation, focusing on certain vital aspects like ergonomics, body mechanics, and stress management as part of their timetable. They also hold sensory therapy session for children who are excessively sensitive to light, sounds and smells so they can be comfortable in any atmosphere. Additionally, these sessions include modules on handwriting as well as motor skills building strength in both hands and sets of fingers progressively.
Douglas OHI are incredibly excited with this initiative, as we are always looking to the needs of the local communities where we operate. The access to support and services for autistic individuals is limited, so Douglas OHI are keen to address this important cause, and support the education, welfare and wellbeing of Omani youth who are most in need of this care.
This initiative provided a creative process allowing autistic children to express themselves and develop confidence in their abilities.
Douglas OHI is built on the principle of community. Across Douglas OHI, employees are encouraged to find ways to get involved in their communities, at the office and beyond. Our volunteer action program encourages employees to support this initiative to empower both children and their families by creating awareness and activities for children diagnosed with autism.
Benefit to the Community
As a result of this engagement, Douglas OHI has been able to support the education of children who have new-found confidence now and feel more supported and relaxed. This support has made a very big difference to their emotional well-being. This program has not only helped build confidence but also their communication skills.
