Heat stress poses a significant threat on construction sites. Understanding the risk factors associated with heat stress is vital for implementing effective control measures. It also ensures the safety and well-being of our workforce.
Our dedicated project teams in Oman, KSA, and UAE have taken proactive steps by launching the annual Douglas OHI Heat Stress Awareness Campaign. This comprehensive initiative is strategically designed to raise awareness among our employees about the multitude of factors that contribute to heat stress. Through informative sessions and educational materials, we empower employees with the knowledge needed to identify.
The campaign highlights not only the causes of heat stress but also the importance of recognising early warning signs and symptoms such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. By educating our team members on these indicators, we enable them to take prompt action and seek assistance when necessary, thereby reducing the likelihood of heat-related illnesses.
As part of our campaign, we conducted a heat-stress medical emergency drill. This drill was designed to simulate real-life scenarios, helping our team practice the appropriate responses to heat stress emergencies. The aim was to reinforce the importance of quick and efficient action, emphasising the need for awareness and preparedness among all crew members. Our commitment to safety ensures that every team member understands what to do in the event of an emergency, ultimately fostering a safer and more responsive working environment.
Moreover, the initiative provides practical guidance on managing heat stress in high-temperature work environments. This includes tips such as staying hydrated, taking regular breaks in shaded areas, and wearing appropriate protective clothing. By equipping our employees with these essential tools and strategies, we empower them to proactively safeguard themselves and their colleagues from the adverse effects of heat stress.
At Douglas OHI, we firmly believe that prevention is key in combating heat-related illnesses. By fostering a culture of awareness and prioritising the health and safety of our team members, we strive to create a work environment where everyone can thrive. Together, we are committed to ensuring the well-being and resilience of our workforce, even in the face of challenging environmental conditions.
