Proactive hazard identification at our KSA project

At Douglas OHI, safety is more than a policy, it’s a culture we live by every day. Our project team in Saudi Arabia recently conducted a comprehensive Hazard Identification Exercise, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and healthy working environments across all sites.

The initiative, led by the project’s HSE team, involved a systematic walkthrough of active work areas to identify potential hazards before they could pose risks to personnel or operations. This proactive approach not only supports compliance with our internal HSE Management System but also encourages employees at all levels to take ownership of safety.

During the session, team members focused on recognising unsafe conditions and acts, including potential slip and trip hazards, improper material stacking, and unguarded machinery. Each observation was discussed on-site, with corrective and preventive measures immediately actioned to ensure the risks were effectively controlled.

By engaging both supervisors and workers, the exercise created a platform for open discussion and practical learning. It also reinforced the importance of reporting near misses, a crucial part of our safety culture that helps prevent future incidents.

Speaking on the initiative, the HSE Manager highlighted, “Hazard identification is the foundation of risk management. When everyone actively participates, we create a safer, more aware workforce.”

This exercise is part of a wider safety awareness programme being implemented across our KSA operations. Through consistent engagement, training, and open communication, Douglas OHI continues to promote a mindset where every individual feels responsible for identifying, reporting, and mitigating hazards — ensuring that safety remains everyone’s priority, every day.
