Operators' Rigger and Flag Man Coordination Training strengthens site safety in Muscat

Douglas OHI recently delivered focused Operators', Rigger, and Flag Man Coordination Training at one of its project sites in Muscat, reinforcing the importance of communication, precision, and teamwork during lifting and movement operations.

The objective was clear. Improve coordination. Eliminate miscommunication. Reduce operational risk.

Lifting activities remain one of the higher-risk elements on any construction site. Effective coordination between equipment operators, riggers and flagmen is critical to ensuring safe execution. This training initiative was designed to sharpen awareness, clarify responsibilities, and strengthen onsite communication protocols.

The session brought together crane and equipment operators, riggers and flagmen for practical and scenario-based learning. Participants reviewed standard hand signals, radio communication procedures, blind spot awareness, and exclusion zone management. Emphasis was placed on clear command hierarchy and the importance of a single point of instruction during lifting operations.

Realistic site simulations allowed teams to practice coordinated movements, identify potential breakdowns in communication, and reinforce correct signaling techniques. Supervisors and HSSE representatives observed the exercises, providing constructive feedback and reinforcing compliance with established lifting plans and method statements.

The training also highlighted the importance of pre-task briefings, equipment inspections, and environmental awareness, particularly in dynamic site conditions where multiple activities are taking place simultaneously.

By investing in targeted coordination training, Douglas OHI continues to strengthen operational discipline across its Muscat projects. Improved communication reduces uncertainty, enhances control, and safeguards both personnel and equipment.

Safety during lifting operations depends on alignment, trust, and clarity. This initiative demonstrates our ongoing commitment to strengthening capability at ground level and ensuring that every movement on site is planned, controlled, and executed with confidence.
