"It’s OK" Wellbeing Programme Launch at Sohar Project Site

At Douglas OHI, our people are our greatest asset — andtheir safety and wellbeing sit at the heart of everything we do.

Recently, we launched our “It’s OK” People-FocusedWellbeing Programme at our Sohar project site. Delivered by Peter Baker, ourHSSE Regional Manager, the interactive session brought together both theDouglas OHI project team and the client’s project management team, reinforcingour shared commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing.

“It’s OK” is designed to create a culture where safety is not just a set of rules — it’s a way of working and living every day.

The programme is built around five key principles:

1.    Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late!
Spot risks early and take action before problems arise.

2.    Talk About It
Encourage open conversations and look out for one another.

3.    We Are All Leaders in Safety
Recognise that everyone has a role in shaping a safer workplace.

4.    If You Are Not Sure, Ask
Promote a culture where asking questions is encouraged.

5.    If You See It, Report It!
Speaking up about hazards can save lives.

“It’s OK” is supported by a series of focused activities, including:

·        People-Focused Safety Training - Encouraging real and open conversations around safety and wellbeing.

·        Say Hello, Wave Goodbye Plant SafetyAwareness - Highlighting the importance of safety near operated plant andmachinery.

·        Heat Stress Awareness Campaign - Protectingteams working in high temperatures.

·        Working at Height Awareness Campaign -Enhancing practical knowledge and safe practices when working above ground level.

·        Snakes and Scorpions Safety Awareness Campaign - Raising awareness about the risks of encountering snakes and scorpions, and promoting safe practices in outdoor and desert work environments.

The launch of "It’s OK" at our Sohar project site delivered immediate, positive outcomes.

Following the training session, we observed:

·        Increased willingness to engage in open conversations about safety and wellbeing.

·        A noticeable improvement in situational awareness on-site.

·        A stronger, shared commitment between our team and the client’s project management team to proactively identify and address risks.

·        The collaborative energy during the session helped embed the core principles of "It’s OK" into daily site operations, setting a strong foundation for continued growth and engagement.

Through the session, we also identified and began addressing key challenges such as language barriers, varying levels of familiarity with safety practices, and hesitancy around speaking up.

By focusing on real conversations and practical actions,we are working to make safety an everyday behaviour rather than a formalprocedure. “It’s OK” is more than a training programme - it is becoming anintegral part of the way we work at Douglas OHI.

By fostering a culture of ownership, open communication, and proactive behaviours, we are building a workplace where safety is lived andreinforced every day. Because when it comes to protecting our greatest asset -our people - taking action is always the only option.
