Growing more than trees: How small actions create lasting environmental impact

A single initiative or headline project does not define sustainability. It is built through consistent actions that, over time, create meaningful change. Across our Kingdom of Saudi Arabia operations, our latest tree planting programme demonstrates how practical environmental stewardship can contribute to a healthier workplace, support biodiversity and reinforce our commitment to sustainable development.

As part of this initiative, 119 Conocarpus erectus trees have now been established across our facilities, with 9 trees planted within the office area and 110 trees throughout the camp. Every tree within the camp has also been individually numbered, with measurements completed to provide a clear baseline for monitoring future growth and long-term environmental performance.

This structured approach reflects our commitment not only to planting trees, but also to measuring and managing the positive impact they will have over time.

Why Trees Matter
Trees play a vital role in creating more sustainable workplaces. They improve local air quality by capturing carbon dioxide and airborne pollutants, provide shade that helps reduce ambient temperatures, support biodiversity by creating habitats for wildlife, and contribute to the wellbeing of employees by creating greener, more pleasant environments.

By recording each tree and establishing a monitoring programme, we are creating accountability for the future success of the initiative. Healthy, thriving trees represent an investment in both our environment and the communities in which we operate.

Supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals

This initiative contributes directly to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

Tree planting supports efforts to mitigate climate change by helping to absorb carbon dioxide while promoting greater environmental awareness across our workforce.

‍

Increasing green spaces contributes to healthier ecosystems, supports biodiversity and demonstrates responsible stewardship of the natural environment

‍

Greener workplaces have been shown to improve wellbeing, create more comfortable environments and encourage positive engagement with nature

‍

Enhancing our operational facilities with green infrastructure contributes to creating more resilient, sustainable places to work.

‍Measuring Progress, Creating Lasting Value
Environmental initiatives deliver the greatest value when they are supported by measurable outcomes. By numbering every tree and recording its condition and growth, our teams have established a practical framework for monitoring the long-term success of the programme.

This enables us to assess survival rates, track growth over time and ensure the continued care of every tree, transforming a one-off planting activity into an ongoing environmental commitment.

Growing a More Sustainable Future
Every tree planted today represents an investment in tomorrow. While no single initiative will address global environmental challenges on its own, collective actions across our projects and operations help create lasting positive impact.

By combining practical environmental action with accountability and continuous improvement, we continue to demonstrate that sustainability is not simply about meeting targets; it is about creating healthier workplaces, protecting natural resources and leaving every place better than we found it.
