Enhancing site safety through designated pedestrian access

Douglas OHI continues to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all personnel on its project sites. As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environment (HSSE) standards, designated pedestrian access routes have been established across our sites.

Providing clear and separate pathways for pedestrians is a fundamental component of site safety management. It ensures that foot traffic is safely segregated from machinery and vehicle operations, minimising the risk of accidents and enhancing operational efficiency.

This approach delivers multiple benefits, including:

• Safety: Reduces the likelihood of pedestrian-related incidents by clearly defining walking areas.

• Operational Efficiency:Helps maintain smooth workflow by preventing interference between pedestrian and vehicular movements.

• Compliance: Meets HSE regulatory requirements and aligns with best practice guidelines for construction sites.

• Risk Mitigation:Supports proactive identification and management of potential hazards associated with site movement.

• Awareness: Reinforces aculture of vigilance and safety mindfulness among all site personnel.

• Emergency Preparedness:Facilitates safer evacuation routes and access for emergency response teamswhen required.

The establishment of pedestrian access routes involves detailed planning, clear signage, and consistent monitoring. Routes are strategically mapped to guide personnel safely between work areas, site facilities, and access points, while avoiding high-risk zones. Training and briefings are conducted regularly to ensure that all staff are familiar with the routes and adhere to site safety protocols.

At Douglas OHI, we believe that safety is a shared responsibility. By introducing and maintaining designated pedestrian access routes, we not only safeguard our workforce but also foster a culture of proactive risk management. This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to HSSE excellence and continuous improvement in workplace safety.
