Get to know the first guest of Employee Spotlight 2023 Edition, Suha Dhuhli, Douglas OHI’s HSSE Advisor.
As an HSSE Advisor, I completed 6 years and 4-month service with Douglas OHI. I began my journey with Douglas OHI in the HSE department at the Ghala head office. But, before that, I had only worked for 1 year, so I did not have sufficient practical training and experience.
My job entails tasks that include:
Because of these tasks, I gained practical knowledge and field experiences, boosting and improving my confidence, communication, and writing skills, and overall HSE practices. This encourages me to carry on more responsibilities and continue striving for development.
In April 2019, I was transferred to a plant yard in Barka which has a maintenance workshop, scaffold yard, MEP, camp, and clinic. The transfer was training for me to improve my knowledge and experience to become a senior HSE advisor. Hence, it was a part of my mission there to lead and be the focal point of HSSE to educate and train the on-site team.
My long- and short-term vision is working with zero incidents and LTI, so I’m working to achieve it by ensuring that we are increasing the training sessions and awareness campaigns for our on-site employees. In addition, I am finding innovative ways to create more diverse training to suit different levels of mentality.
As far as my personal and career development, I am taking the initiative to get and complete different courses. On May 2023, I will be taking the NEBOSH IGC1 exam. Aside from this, I am also planning to get different courses focusing on HSSE, such as the Level 3 SMS and Audit ISO 45001 courses.
Yes, definitely. I completed various types of HSSE courses, such as:
And on May 2023, I plan to finish the IGC1. I’m also continuously attending external HSSE conferences and joining competitions such as the RoSPA, where we have won several silver and gold medal awards for Fleet Management.
My initial line manager was the one who pushed, prodded, and prompted me to be active, took me under his wings, and gave me the confidence to soar and reach new heights. He was the one who set the standards for me and pushed me to achieve the same.
My current manager gave me the freedom to work the way I like and achieve results. He appreciates my ideas and helps me achieve them by supporting me.
As I already handle work like a senior HSSE Advisor, I would like to attain that position on paper first and then be considered for site HSSE manager.
